TL;DR
- Start with Salesforce Collaborative Forecasts if opportunities, owners and the management hierarchy already live in Sales Cloud. It is available in Professional and higher qualifying editions, with restrictions in Professional. Price any Revenue Intelligence upgrade separately; its US$220 per-user-per-month annual list price is not the cost of basic collaborative forecasting.
- Choose Gong Forecast when the hard part is testing a manager's number against buyer interactions and deal evidence. Forecast Essentials is not the same product: it has boards and inspection, while Gong Forecast adds submissions, roll-ups and predictive features. The CRM still supplies forecast categories and deal fields.
- Choose Clari Forecast when the hard part is running a common cadence across teams, hierarchies and revenue motions such as new business, renewals and consumption. Its value depends on a well-owned forecasting process and the data map feeding it.
- Gong and Clari use custom quotes. Compare them with the incremental cost of your current Salesforce entitlement, the required forecast package, manager/viewer seats, implementation and monthly administration. None repairs a disputed definition of commit or an unreliable close date by itself.
A forecast meeting often starts with a disagreement that software cannot calculate away. The CRM says a US$400,000 deal is in commit. The rep says the buyer is ready. The last customer conversation still contains an unresolved security condition. The regional manager has already submitted a number, while Finance is using an export from Tuesday. The decision is not just which dashboard predicts revenue. It is where the organization submits a number, how a manager inspects the underlying deals and which dated version leadership trusts.
Gong, Clari and Salesforce can each participate in that process. They can also coexist: Salesforce remains the opportunity system of record while Gong or Clari becomes the forecast workspace. Compare the exact product and workflow you need, not three entire brands. This guide uses vendor documentation checked on 26 September 2026 and an explicit worked scenario. It does not claim an independent accuracy test.
The three products are not the same purchase
Salesforce Collaborative Forecasts is the native starting point for a team already running opportunities in Salesforce. It maps CRM opportunity data into categories, periods and a management hierarchy. Salesforce Revenue Intelligence adds a separately priced analytics and AI layer, or may be included with a higher edition. Those are distinct entitlements.
Gong Forecast connects a forecasting workflow to the deal and customer-interaction record in Gong. Its Forecast Essentials product is an inspection layer; it does not include the forecast-submission capabilities of Gong Forecast. Clari Forecast is a dedicated forecast operating surface, particularly relevant where several revenue models and teams must contribute to one number. Both depend on reliable CRM fields even when their user experience is outside the CRM.
Before asking about AI, settle four definitions. Is the target bookings, annual recurring revenue, recognized revenue or cash? Which opportunity or subscription object feeds each motion? When is a deal permitted in commit? What is the weekly submission deadline? If the sales and finance teams answer differently, a second platform can make the disagreement more visible but cannot make one number authoritative.
Comparison at a glance
| Decision factor | Gong Forecast | Clari Forecast | Salesforce Collaborative Forecasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main job | Inspect deal evidence and submit an informed forecast | Run a cross-team forecast cadence with configurable roll-ups | Forecast inside the CRM's opportunity, owner and hierarchy model |
| Source-system dependency | CRM fields plus captured Gong activity; Salesforce or HubSpot in forecast setup | CRM and other mapped revenue data; Salesforce integration documented | Salesforce opportunity and forecast configuration |
| What to confirm in scope | Full Forecast, not Forecast Essentials; seats, interaction capture, submissions | Forecast product, revenue motions, hierarchy, history and adjacent modules | Edition, Professional restrictions, native setup and optional Revenue Intelligence |
| Public price basis | Custom: per-user licences plus platform fee | Custom quote | Existing Sales Cloud entitlement; Revenue Intelligence list US$220/user/month annual if separately bought |
| Likely implementation work | CRM field mapping, capture coverage, forecast boards and adoption | Revenue-model mapping, roll-up ownership, history and cadence | Forecast categories, hierarchy, permissions and report consistency |
An opportunity can be forecast in Salesforce and also inspected by Gong. That is not duplication if there is one declared submission process and the other system supplies evidence. It becomes duplication when a manager is expected to maintain two different commit totals without knowing which is official.
1. Gong Forecast: challenge the number with deal evidence
Gong is strongest when managers need to explain why a deal belongs in the number. Its Forecast product page distinguishes Forecast Essentials, with deal and account boards and deal-review tools, from Gong Forecast, which adds forecast submission, forecast analytics and predictor features. Make the vendor demonstrate the submission view and include that product by name in the quote. A pipeline board by itself may make a meeting better without replacing the spreadsheet where managers submit the number.
Gong's forecast setup documentation says the product takes actuals, open deals and forecast categories from CRM fields, and recommends amount, close date, owner and opportunity type. It currently describes Salesforce and HubSpot as the CRMs for Gong Forecast setup. That matters: if two business units use different meanings of “commit” or a custom amount field, the forecast board must map them deliberately. Conversation evidence is an additional lens, not an alternative to those underlying fields.
In the US$400,000 deal example, Gong can give the manager a route back to recent customer activity. If a security review is still open, the manager can challenge the rep's commit and document the reason for a judgment. Yet a silent account is not proof of a lost deal. Some buying steps happen in procurement systems, partner channels or meetings not captured by Gong. The useful workflow records what the manager saw and why they chose an override; it does not blindly replace human judgment with a risk score.
Gong publishes its price model, not a public annual rate: licences are per user and a platform fee depends on supported users. Existing technology integrations are described as free, but internal field mapping and rollout still consume staff time. Ask whether the quote assumes the team already has Gong Foundation and captured activity, which users need Forecast versus a view role, and how platform fees change when the rollout expands. A Gong Forecast purchase layered onto an existing Gong interaction deployment is a different project from introducing capture and forecasting together.
Good fit: sales teams already collecting enough buyer interactions and wanting deal-level evidence in the forecast call. Weak fit: a company that merely needs weekly roll-up submission and has little captured activity. If the buyer's real requirement is call coaching, our Gong, Chorus and Fathom comparison is the more relevant evaluation.
2. Clari Forecast: coordinate several revenue motions
Clari is the choice to evaluate when the forecast process itself is fragmented. Clari Forecast now appears within Salesloft's platform; the current product page retains that product name. Its documented forecast scope includes roll-ups, scenario work and subscription and consumption models, with Salesforce among the integrations. Test the required motion in the quoted configuration. These capabilities are useful only if the organization can identify the owner and measure for each revenue stream. A new-business sales manager, customer-success renewal owner and usage-revenue analyst may all contribute to the quarter, but they must not count the same contract twice.
For example, a company may forecast US$3 million of new bookings from opportunities, US$2 million of renewals from expiring contracts and US$1 million of usage from existing customers. A single opportunity-stage report cannot necessarily express all three faithfully. Clari's value proposition is a governed view in which each owner submits a motion-specific number and an executive can inspect the roll-up. Test the exact model: where do renewal base and expansion appear; when is usage recognized for the forecast; who may override a manager; and how are historical submissions retained when the source record later changes?
It is easy to overbuy. Salesloft has a broader platform around Clari Forecast, and a demo can blend features from products that will not be in the final contract. The purchase is quote-based. Ask the seller to identify Clari Forecast, any separate modules, the CRM connectors, contributor/manager/viewer access, implementation services and data-history terms. The point is to price the forecasting decision rather than an undefined revenue-platform package.
Good fit: several teams or revenue motions need a shared, dated submission and inspection cadence. Weak fit: a small opportunity-only sales team with no owner for forecast operations. The latter may replace spreadsheets with a second expensive screen while leaving the same definitions and update discipline unresolved.
3. Salesforce: use the system of record first
Salesforce is the baseline to test when the opportunity, account owner and management hierarchy already live there. Its Collaborative Forecasting availability guide lists Professional, Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited and Developer editions. The guide notes that Professional lacks Opportunity Splits and custom-field forecasts. That restriction can decide the purchase if teams need split credit or a nonstandard measure, but a straightforward opportunity-based forecast may already be supported without a new platform subscription.
Keep native forecasting separate from Revenue Intelligence. Salesforce's current price page lists Revenue Intelligence at US$220 per user per month billed annually and the Tableau edition at US$250. It says Revenue Intelligence is included in Max Edition or can be purchased separately. These numbers are meaningful for an incremental analytics purchase, not a reason to assign US$220 to every manager using Collaborative Forecasts. Verify existing Sales Cloud editions, forecast access and any bundled entitlement before calculating a gap.
A native implementation still takes work. Forecast categories must mean the same thing across teams; period and territory hierarchies need owners; amount and close-date fields must be maintained; permissions should let a manager inspect the right pipeline without exposing unrelated opportunities. If those rules are simple and CRM data is current, keeping the weekly call in Salesforce may be the least disruptive path. If the problem is missing buyer evidence or multiple non-opportunity revenue motions, a complementary platform deserves a trial.
Good fit: an opportunity-led forecast whose authoritative records already sit in Salesforce. Weak fit: an assumption that one dashboard will reconcile poorly modelled renewals, consumption or buyer activity that never reaches the CRM. Our RevOps and revenue intelligence platforms guide puts this choice in the wider operating stack.
A worked forecast meeting
Suppose the week-four pipeline contains three types of number. The sales team has US$3 million of new-business opportunities, of which managers submit US$1.8 million in commit. Customer success expects US$2 million of renewals, with US$300,000 explicitly at risk. Usage revenue has a US$1 million expected range, but only US$700,000 is supported by current consumption. A naive dashboard that adds every headline figure says US$6 million. A meeting-ready forecast must state whether the submitted number is US$4.2 million (1.8 + 1.7 + 0.7), a scenario range, or something else, and why. Those figures are hypothetical, not vendor outputs.
| Question raised in the meeting | Gong Forecast route | Clari Forecast route | Salesforce native route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Why is a US$400,000 new deal in commit? | Inspect captured buyer activity beside the deal and manager submission | Inspect deal and historical movement in the configured roll-up | Inspect opportunity fields, category, stage and manager judgment |
| Who owns the US$300,000 renewal risk? | Requires the relevant account/deal and CRM mapping | Model renewal owner and motion in the forecast hierarchy | Requires renewal objects, measure and ownership represented in Salesforce |
| What changed since last Friday? | Review submission and deal evidence if full Forecast is contracted | Compare dated roll-ups and inputs in the configured process | Compare snapshots or history the Salesforce team has actually retained |
| Which number goes to Finance? | The declared weekly submission, exported or reconciled | The declared consolidated roll-up | The declared Salesforce forecast submission |
That table is a test script, not a claim that each product ships an identical configuration. Give each vendor or admin the same three-motion dataset. Ask them to show the week-three value, the week-four change, the owner of the adjustment and the source record. If a motion cannot be modelled without a workaround, document the workaround and its cost.
The forecast also needs a correction loop. A manager can reasonably keep a deal in commit despite a missing call because a procurement approval happened elsewhere. Record the reason and inspect the outcome at period end. Preserve both the machine signal and the manager judgment; otherwise there is no way to learn whether overrides add accuracy or merely protect optimistic deals.
What to ask about cost and implementation
Do not compare Gong, Clari and Salesforce by three headline monthly figures. Salesforce Collaborative Forecasts may already be in a current edition. Salesforce Revenue Intelligence, if needed, has a public US$220/user/month annual list price, so ten newly licensed users would be US$26,400 a year before any discount; ten Tableau-edition users would be US$30,000 a year at US$250. These are incremental list-price illustrations, not the cost of the underlying Sales Cloud contracts or a guaranteed quote. Gong and Clari require scoped proposals.
| Line item to request | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Forecast contributors, managers and read-only executives | A viewer may or may not need the same licence as a submitter |
| Exact product/module and inherited platform | Gong Forecast versus Essentials; Clari Forecast versus adjacent products; Salesforce native versus Revenue Intelligence |
| CRM, data source and history integration | A connector can be included while field mapping and migration are not |
| Implementation and training | Hierarchy, categories, fiscal calendar and adoption affect time to a reliable first call |
| Ongoing administrator hours | Complex models need ownership after launch |
| Renewal, growth and exit terms | The number of supported users or data history can change cost later |
For planning, ten extra administrator hours a month at an assumed internal US$75/hour cost US$9,000 per year. That is a hypothetical labour cost, not a claimed saving or fee from any vendor. Include it to keep a cheap licence with a fragile manual process from appearing automatically cheaper than a better-fitted configuration. Likewise, a product with more features is not automatically better if the team uses only one of them.
A two-period evaluation
Use one historical period to configure and one live period to observe. First, reconcile opportunity or contract IDs, account ownership, forecast measure, fiscal calendar, category definitions and historical close-date changes. Decide where a manager enters the official weekly number. Then run the same fixed weekly cadence in the candidate system while keeping the current forecast as the control. Preserve snapshots at a consistent time, including the submitted manager number and any override reason.
Score the pilot on practical outcomes: time spent preparing the meeting, percentage of deals with usable evidence, unexplained changes in commit, double-counted renewal/expansion, completeness of historical submissions and the effort to deliver a trusted number to Finance. Also measure forecast error against the eventual result, but use the same target and horizon for each system. A vendor's published customer accuracy result is not a forecast for your business.
At the end of the live period, choose one authoritative submission workflow. You can keep Gong for customer evidence and Salesforce for the official roll-up, or use Clari for the coordinated forecast while Salesforce remains the CRM. What should end is the requirement for managers to maintain inconsistent totals in two systems indefinitely. The signal-based outbound playbook addresses the upstream account evidence that improves pipeline quality before a deal ever appears in the forecast.
Which forecasting platform fits?
Choose Gong Forecast if the central question is “what buyer evidence supports this deal's probability and date?” and the team already captures enough interactions to answer it. Choose Clari Forecast if new business, renewal and consumption owners need one consistent cadence and roll-up. Start with Salesforce Collaborative Forecasts if the process is opportunity-led and its categories, hierarchy and data are already in Sales Cloud. Add Revenue Intelligence only for a defined analytics gap and after checking the current edition.
Write the failed decision in one sentence before procuring anything: “We cannot explain why the commit number changed between Friday and Tuesday,” or “Renewal and expansion are being counted twice.” Then ask each candidate to resolve that precise case with your records, people and fiscal calendar. That yields a purchase decision the CRO and Finance can inspect, rather than a feature-count contest.
FAQ
Does Gong Forecast replace Salesforce?
No. Gong Forecast's setup uses Salesforce or HubSpot CRM fields for actuals, open deals, forecast categories and deal information. Salesforce can remain the opportunity system of record while Gong becomes a forecast submission and inspection workspace. Define which one holds the official weekly submission and how it is shared.
Is Gong Forecast Essentials enough for roll-ups?
Do not assume so. Gong's current product page puts deal and account boards in Forecast Essentials and lists forecast submission and analytics under Gong Forecast. Ask for the exact SKU and a demonstration of a manager submitting and reviewing a roll-up before accepting a quote.
Can Clari forecast renewals and usage as well as new business?
Clari positions Forecast for subscription and consumption models, but the buyer still needs to map its source data, owner and timing for each motion. Test a renewal with expansion and a usage adjustment on real sample records. The test should show whether the executive roll-up avoids double-counting.
Is Salesforce Revenue Intelligence required for Collaborative Forecasts?
No. Salesforce documents Collaborative Forecasting availability in Professional and several higher qualifying editions, with restrictions in Professional. Revenue Intelligence is a separately priced analytics offering or an included entitlement in Max Edition. Check the actual org edition and desired feature before adding its list price.
Which product has the most accurate AI forecast?
There is no credible universal winner from public case studies. Accuracy changes with the forecast target, time horizon, stage discipline and captured evidence. Use the same dated submissions and eventual result in your own pilot, and keep error direction as well as size.
What must be in a forecast-platform quote?
The exact forecast product, contributor and viewer roles, inherited platform fee, integrations, historical data, implementation, support and contract term. Ask the vendor to price your required new-business, renewal and usage motions separately from optional modules. That makes a custom quote comparable with the incremental Salesforce path.
