TL;DR
- Choose G2 Buyer Intent when your product category has active research on G2 and its associated review properties, and you want to distinguish direct product comparisons, competitor research, pricing views and earlier category interest. G2's September 2026 documentation lists nine event types, but each product's subscription determines which you receive.
- Choose TrustRadius/HG Insights intent when its product and competitor research reaches the accounts you sell to and you want that downstream activity in CRM or an account program. TrustRadius was acquired by HG Insights in 2025; its vendor pricing page now identifies the broader offer as HG Customer Voice. Quote the specific intent feed, not just the review-content package.
- Consider HG Intent-Driven Leads separately if the problem is finding reachable people. HG describes it as an opt-in contact program sourced from TrustRadius research and filtered by ICP. It is not the same product or unit as an anonymous account-level signal; a delivered lead should not automatically be described as the individual who generated every prior account signal.
- G2's Buying Stage and Activity Level update daily, but a label such as “Decision” is a vendor model, not proof of approved budget or a named decision maker. Test actual account and event coverage before using it to route outreach.
- Neither vendor establishes a useful universal price from the public pages reviewed. Ask for the product-level subscriptions, included events, historical window, integration, lead program, usage rights and total annual commitment in writing.
Why review-site intent can be different
A generic topic surge may tell you that a company is reading about a category across the web. A review-site signal can show that a company is looking at product profiles, a vendor comparison, an alternatives page or pricing within a software marketplace. That is useful when the research environment matches the decision your team sells into. It is not automatically stronger: a competitor, consultant, partner, student or existing customer may also browse the page.
Suppose a security-software company sells to Meridian Bank UK. One signal says someone from the Meridian organization viewed an identity-governance category page. Another says the company compared your product directly with a named competitor. Those observations have different meanings. The first supports an account-research task; the second could justify a targeted competitive review by the account owner. Neither identifies which employee visited unless a separate opt-in lead program actually supplies a person and the conditions for contacting them.
The buyer should ask three questions before selecting a vendor: Does this review site have activity in our category? Can its observed company be matched to the correct selling account? What action changes when the signal arrives? A strong headline about marketplace reach does not answer those questions. Our B2B intent data providers guide compares this source class with wider third-party data; this article focuses on the actual review-site event and sales handoff.
G2 and TrustRadius compared
| Decision point | G2 Buyer Intent | TrustRadius/HG Insights |
|---|---|---|
| Core research surface | G2 product, category, pricing, alternatives and comparison pages; documentation also includes research from Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp | TrustRadius product, review, comparison and competitive research, now within HG Insights offer |
| Documented event detail | Nine named types; Buying Stage and Activity Level calculated daily | Account-level downstream research activity; exact event and refresh feed should be quoted |
| CRM path | G2 integrations and Intent Studio filtering for selected destinations | TrustRadius Salesforce connector maps account activity to Salesforce opportunities; HG programs have additional routes |
| Identified people | Company-level intent does not identify a specific page visitor | Base intent is account-level; separate HG Intent-Driven Leads supplies opt-in contacts |
| Commercial dependency | Entitlement varies by each G2-listed product subscription and signal type | Quote current HG intent package, connector and any separate opt-in lead program |
| Best starting point | Your G2 category, profile and comparison set are actively researched | Your TrustRadius category and target accounts show useful research, or opt-in lead acquisition is the real need |
This table is a map of publicly described capabilities, not a coverage benchmark. One platform can have more total visitors and fewer useful accounts in your exact niche. Use the same account list to test both.
1. G2 Buyer Intent
G2's Buyer Intent documentation, updated in September 2026, identifies nine signal types: Profile, Pricing, Alternatives, Category, Compare, Sponsored content, Licensed content, Reference page and Competitive. These are not interchangeable. A direct comparison page including your product identifies a named competitive context. A competitor-only signal says an account looked at a product in your category without necessarily seeing you. A sponsored-content view may reflect exposure to an ad rather than voluntary product evaluation. Treat the event name as evidence, not a generic “hot account” label.
G2 says the signal feed includes research activity from G2, Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp. That footprint can help if your category and products have meaningful activity on those properties. It does not guarantee four times as many relevant companies, and you should not price a hypothetical coverage lift. Ask for a sample broken out by product, marketplace origin, event type, company and date. If most of your target buyers use review sites outside the sampled category, reach will disappoint regardless of network size.
The documentation says each listed product that should receive Buyer Intent needs its own product-level subscription and that plan determines which signal types it receives. A company with three products may therefore need more than one subscription. Do not assume a sales demonstration of all nine event types matches the purchased entitlement. Request a table of your products and categories against included Profile, Compare, Competitive and other events, available history and integration rights.
G2 replaced a single intent score with Buying Stage and Activity Level, updated daily. The former reflects its model of awareness, consideration or decision; the latter summarizes low, medium or high activity. Both depend on the events in the subscription. A buyer marked “Decision” may still be a competitor benchmarking pricing or an existing customer comparing renewal alternatives. Review the underlying timeline and last-seen time before a seller acts. G2's Intent Studio can filter ICP-matching accounts toward integrations; verify that the destination receives the event detail and not just a flattened score.
G2 is a poor fit if your category has thin relevant research, if your products are listed in categories that produce broad low-fit traffic, or if the specific signal you want sits beyond the proposed plan. A trial should reveal the number of correctly matched, genuinely actionable account events, not the number of pageviews on G2's network.
2. TrustRadius intent within HG Insights
HG Insights acquired TrustRadius in June 2025. The current vendor pricing page states that TrustRadius is now HG Customer Voice, within HG's broader Revenue Growth Intelligence platform. This matters in procurement: a quote for review collection and syndication does not automatically tell you the scope, rights or price of a downstream intent feed. Ask whether the proposal covers customer-voice content, buyer intent, technographics, lead generation or some combination.
TrustRadius activity is attractive when buyers in your product niche read detailed reviews and compare alternatives on that property. Its Salesforce integration page describes an account-level connector that maps TrustRadius intent to Salesforce opportunities. In the Meridian example, that can show an account owner that a company with an active deal is researching a competitor. The necessary test is which Account and Opportunity receive the observation, whether the competitor and date are visible, and whether a subsidiary's activity is assigned to a parent. A vendor saying “integrates with Salesforce” is insufficient if the signal lands on the wrong entity.
The acquisition adds possible HG firmographic and technology context, but those additional data products should not be assumed to be included in a TrustRadius-only purchase. Ask for a current product diagram and a live demonstration of the research event, matching rule and sales surface that the proposed contract actually covers. The non-fit is a category with little relevant TrustRadius research or a team that cannot operate a company-level signal after receiving it. General assertions about the seniority of an entire review-site audience do not establish the seniority of people at your own 300 target accounts.
3. HG Intent-Driven Leads is a separate purchase
The live article says both vendors offer only account-level data and neither can provide a person. That is inaccurate if HG Intent-Driven Leads is in scope. HG's current product page describes a managed program that delivers opt-in prospects drawn from TrustRadius research, filtered by ICP and account propensity, with contact information and intent context for CRM or marketing automation handoff. It is a lead-generation program rather than a row of anonymous intent data.
This distinction changes the buyer's budget. An account-intent feed needs a contact database and a seller who decides whom to approach. An opt-in lead program includes reachable contacts, but may also include content promotion, campaign management and a different unit such as accepted leads or program volume. Ask for an explicit definition of an accepted lead, source and date of opt-in, company and role validation, duplicate policy, replacements, geography, delivery cadence and whether a buyer who opted in is the same individual as a particular anonymous earlier visitor. Do not imply that identity continuity exists unless the program can prove it.
The HG page makes optimistic conversion claims about its own program; those are vendor claims, not a comparative result for your sales motion. In a pilot, score lead relevance and actual meetings or opportunities created. If you already have strong contact coverage and only need account priority, the managed-lead expense may duplicate work. If your small team has no way to turn account signals into people to contact, a lead program may solve a different, more immediate bottleneck than an intent feed.
Which event deserves a sales action?
Start with a decision rule, not a score threshold copied from a sales page. A direct product comparison between you and an active competitor can go to the existing account owner, with recent CRM history and a prompt to investigate the evaluation. A pricing-page view can raise priority when the account fits and is not already in an active deal conversation. A category page or competitor-only event may simply update an account research queue. A sponsored-content impression alone should rarely produce a personal sales task. In each case, note whether the company is a customer, open opportunity, target or low-fit unknown.
Treat the G2 Buying Stage as one input and the TrustRadius account event as another. Neither should cause a message that says “I saw you compare us” to a named executive when only an organization was identified. An appropriate message can discuss a relevant decision problem without exposing or overstating inferred browsing behavior. Even a high activity level can reflect several different individuals or repeated research by one person.
For an HG opt-in lead, use the supplied consent and context according to the program's terms and your communication rules. It can justify a contact-level follow-up if the lead is valid; it does not retroactively identify the person behind every company-level signal. This separation protects both accuracy and seller credibility.
From research company to the right CRM account
Before connecting either feed, choose a sample of 30 difficult CRM records: parent and subsidiary pairs, acquired brands, duplicate domains, regional sales ownership and customers with open renewals. For each signal, preserve the provider, product, category, event type, observed date, delivered date, source company identifier and matched CRM ID. When an organization maps to more than one selling entity, route it to review rather than guessing. Do not update an opportunity stage solely because a review page was visited.
The seller view should answer: What was observed? How recent? Which product or competitor? Why did this match my account? What other CRM context supports action? What is unknown? A task that says “high intent at Meridian” with no event or date is difficult to use. A useful task says “company-level G2 comparison signal involving Product A and Competitor B in the past seven days; account match to Meridian UK reviewed; open evaluation opportunity exists.” The latter still calls for human judgment before any personal message.
An integration listing is only a starting point. Test actual sync direction, field-level permissions, whether a signal creates a new account, how duplicates are handled, and whether a seller can dismiss or correct a false match. If the feed enters a warehouse, confirm the right to retain and analyze historical observations after a contract ends. If it enters an ad audience, count media cost separately from intent-data cost.
A 300-account evaluation
Freeze 300 companies across the products, markets and regions you actually sell. Include 50 current customers or open opportunities, 50 known target accounts with no activity, 30 parent/subsidiary cases and a broader set of prospects. Ask both providers for a sample period and the exact event types available under the proposed plan. If HG Intent-Driven Leads is being considered, evaluate that program separately with a defined accepted-lead quota and consent/quality checks. This is an illustrative trial design, not a claim that either provider produced the example numbers below.
For six weeks, measure unique matched accounts, then correct CRM matches, then actionable events after fit, recency and customer suppression, then seller-accepted actions. Also record direct-comparison events separately from category-only and sponsored events. If the source returns 80 companies, 60 match the right account, 25 have relevant events and 12 produce accepted seller actions, the useful yield is 12, not 80 and not the pageview count. The numbers are hypothetical. For the lead program, count delivered, valid, new-to-CRM, accepted, contacted and meeting-producing opt-in leads as a separate funnel.
Have sales review a small blinded set of event summaries without vendor branding, then reveal the source. Ask whether the event would change the next action. A feed with fewer total companies can win if its direct comparisons help reps prepare useful conversations. A feed with many high-stage labels can lose if most are wrong accounts or stale. Neither a six-week pilot nor a review-site event can prove revenue lift in a long enterprise cycle; it can establish coverage, identity and operational use.
The contract and activation cost
Request quotes for the same 300-account, multi-product scenario. From G2, ask for the price per listed product subscription, specific included event types, category access, integrations, history, delivery cadence, any activation or audience rights and implementation. From HG, ask for the account-level TrustRadius intent feed, Salesforce or warehouse delivery, any HG data enrichment, Customer Voice content package and separate Intent-Driven Leads program as distinct lines. Clarify minimum program volume, replacement terms and the identity of the person behind delivered leads.
Calculate first-year license + additional product subscriptions + integration + contact data or lead program + ad media + operator time. Compare cost per accepted account action for the feeds and cost per valid accepted lead or meeting for a managed-lead program. Those denominators are different; combining them in one “cost per signal” figure hides the actual business result. Public pages reviewed for this article do not establish a dependable current all-in price for either intent feed. A buyer-specific written quote is necessary, not because the article is a scientific paper but because the scope changes the purchase.
For example, a hypothetical $24,000 annual feed that yields 240 accepted account actions costs $100 per accepted action before labor. The same $24,000 yielding 60 actions costs $400. This arithmetic is not a vendor price or performance estimate. It shows why coverage and activation should be measured on your account list before signing a multi-year term.
Which should you choose?
Choose G2 Buyer Intent if your software category has meaningful activity and direct comparisons or pricing events are present for the products you sell. Confirm the event entitlements per product. Choose TrustRadius/HG account intent if its review and comparison activity better represents your target accounts and the CRM connector or broader HG data actually helps your owners act. Consider HG Intent-Driven Leads only when reachable, consented contacts are part of the buying problem; evaluate it as a separate lead program.
If neither source matches enough priority accounts, do not force a review-site intent purchase. Other topic, website or change signals may be more useful. Our Bombora versus 6sense versus Demandbase comparison covers a different intent architecture, and our RevOps platforms guide covers the workflow that turns an account signal into a governed action.
The ABM Playbook helps place review-site research signals inside a wider account and buying-group plan.
FAQ
Does G2 Buyer Intent identify the individual visitor?
The standard Buyer Intent view described in G2's documentation provides company-level research signals and aggregate unique-visitor information, not the name of the person who opened a comparison. Match the company to CRM and choose contacts using other evidence.
How many G2 signal types are there?
G2's September 2026 documentation lists nine named types: Profile, Pricing, Alternatives, Category, Compare, Sponsored content, Licensed content, Reference page and Competitive. Each product's plan determines access; a demonstration of all nine does not establish your entitlement.
Is TrustRadius now HG Insights?
HG Insights acquired TrustRadius in June 2025. Its current vendor pricing page describes TrustRadius as HG Customer Voice within HG's broader Revenue Growth Intelligence offer. Ask which part of the quote covers review content, account intent or a separate lead program.
Are HG Intent-Driven Leads the same as TrustRadius account intent?
No. HG describes Intent-Driven Leads as an opt-in contact program based on TrustRadius research and ICP filters. Account intent is an observation about a company. Verify consent, contact identity, quality and delivery terms separately.
Which review-site signal is most useful to a seller?
A direct comparison involving your product and an active competitor often gives a specific research question to investigate. Pricing, alternatives and category events can also matter, but fit, recency, correct account mapping and CRM context determine whether a seller should act.
Which provider has better coverage?
Neither has a universal advantage for every software category. Compare the same target companies, product categories, event types and observation window. Count correctly matched, actionable accounts rather than marketplace-wide traffic or all pageviews.
